Home Makeover: Diet Edition

This Christmas, Santa's is giving me granite countertops, new tile, a new sink and a fancy new dishwasher.  I'm ecstatic!  My younger, hipper 'skinny sister' thinks I'm a loser when I discuss my appliances but I think it's fabulous.   Today the crew came to demolish the old tile and I'm over the moon about it.  Only thing is, I'll be without a kitchen for about a week and I feel like I'm losing control.  I couldn't get in there today to get a piece of fruit or a light snack so I felt ravenous by lunchtime.  I was supposed to make a funky tea that my acupuncturist gave me but I couldn't get in there to boil it twice in a non-metallic pot as instructed.  My vitamins are in the cupboard but there are 5 guys standing in my way.  We went out to lunch today and we'll have to order in or go out for most meals this week which can lead me straight for dreaded DANGER ZONE if I don't watch it.  I ordered well today (eggs with onions, peppers and a side salad) but my husband got the mac 'n' cheese and my son got the grilled cheese...both total no-no's for me, for now.  And ordering pizza is just SO easy!  Any tips on making it through a remodel and a diet at the same time?

The good news, is it's only going to take a week....but, hopefully that's not contractor's version of a week....LOL!!! I'd say plan ahead the night before and gather the items you will need and maybe put them in the garage. As for the tea, can you just make it with hot water? If so, grab what you need for it and go to Starbucks and just ask for hot water...I've done that before...and just make my own tea. And, if you need to eat out, plan that ahead of time and know what you are going to order and where you are going so that you prepare yourself mentally. That's all I can think of for now.....

Hey Kelly! We remodeled our kitchen this past March. I found that I really needed to plan ahead like Gloria said. I set up a make-shift kitchen in our dining room. I moved the microwave off the counter top onto a table in the DR and set up the toaster and coffee pot too. Sad to say we lived on paper plates for a few weeks but it helped. We also got a new fridge so I had them plug the old fridge in the DR as well. You can make your tea by boiling h2o in your microwave in a mug if that helps. I emptied my china closet and filled it with food from my cabinets. Not sure if any of these suggestions will work for you but thought I'd try and give you some tips! Commit to not allowing yourself to use the stress as an excuse to deviate from plan. We were under construction for 4 months and I proceeded to gain back 14 hard lost pounds. It was so much easier to be gone all day then to deal with the mess which meant eating out a lot at kid friendly digs which don't always offer the healthiest of options.

I totally feel your pain...but just hang in there, and be grateful it is only a week. Try to imagine how nice it will be to prepare healthy meals in a new kitchen.

Thank you guys SO much for your feedback on this one-it's been CRAZY! But I have my coffee pot and microwave set up and I found out I can use powder for my tea...instead of having to double boil it myself. We've done a lot of eating out but for the most part I've stayed in control. I can't WAIT to cook in the kitchen now!
