Soccer Mom-GOAL!

It's official.  I am a soccer mom--minivan included.  It might not be too sexy rolling into the valet at 'da club' but this is where my Honda Odyssey is in it's glory...the soccer field!  My 4 year old son had his first practice today.  We purchased new cleats, a shiny size 3 ball, socks, and the smallest, cutest little shin guards you've ever seen...and my eyes started to well up.  He was THRILLED, as was I.  My baby boy was totally geared up and ready to hit the field.  I was emotional as I remembered my childhood, and the excitement that went with getting ready for a new season of sports.  Buying new equipment was an important step - it makes you feel good, gives you confidence and puts you on the road to success.  So go out there, get yourself a new workout outfit, some new shoes, maybe even a new gym bag.  You know I will!

I weighed in today at Weight Watchers. I am not quite ready to admit my weight to you so we'll work with my BMI to discuss my weight loss goals.  For those of you who don't know, BMI  is your body mass index.  Clink on the link to find out yours.
Here's my current info/goal:

Height:  5"3
BMI:  32.5

By Thanksgiving:
I will still be 5'3 (let's hope!)
I will have lost 15 lbs and have a BMI under 30

Here's what I did to move things along today:

Workout: (all exercises are 3 sets of 12)
5 minute warm up on bike
Run 10 minutes on incline 2
Leg extensions
Elliptical 10 minutes
Biceps (7.5 lbs.)
Triceps (7.5 lbs.)
Bike 10 minutes
Prone leg curl (40 lbs.)
Lat Pull down

Breakfast:  lowfat yogurt, slivered almonds, coffee
Snack:  Weight Watchers red velvet snack bar (1 point)
Lunch:  2 oz. sliced chicken breast in 1/2 a pita with the leftover arugula and tomatoes from yesterday, 5 strawberries
Snack: coffee, oatmeal cookie
Dinner:  Poached Salmon with Lemon-Dill Sauce (from the WW "In No Time" cookbook- 6 pts), salad and Basmati rice.

1 1/4 skinless salmon fillet cut into 4 pieces
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 ground white pepper
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup 1% milk
1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
1 tsp grated lemon zest
1/4 tsp ground coriander

1. Spray a 2-quart microwavable dish with a lid with nonstick spray.  Add salmon and sprinkle with the lemon juice, salt and pepper.  Cover and microwave on high until fish is opaque (about 5-6), let stand for 1 minute.  Drain the liquid into a cup. Cover the fish and keep it warm.

2.  Meanwhile mix flour with 1/4 cup of the milk to a smooth paste in a medium saucepan. Stir in the remaining milk, the dill, lemon zest and coriander. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture bubbles and thickens about 3 minutes. Stir in the fish liquid and reheat. Serve the salmon with the sauce.

Go get that gear! Good luck!

Kel, I'm a soccer mom too. It is so strange for me because I never played sports growing up, never had the experience of parents cheering on at the sidelines. I hardly feel at ease there, with the other fit sporty parents, but it is so fun to watch Olivia and all the little girls run around. We bought new gear, I was being practical, purchasing blue so that we could pass stuff on to her brother, but guess what...first practice and she lost a cleat. Need to run to get more before the first big game this weekend. Today we get uniforms...yipee!

Yo-What is O's team color? I think you need to get yourself a "uniform", some cute shirt in the team's color. It's a great way to get psyched up for the season and you'll look like you'll know what you're doing! Most of all...HAVE FUN! At this tender young age it's about having fun and getting exercise. And to stay active, why not have Olivia take you out and show you what she's learned? Soccer is a GREAT workout!
